KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kia Forte was trapped under a semi truck after a collision at around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning at Interstate 435 and State Line Road in Leawood, Kansas, and dragged by the semi truck under the edge of its trailer to the area of I-435 and Lackman Road.
The driver of the silver Kia, a 28-year-old woman of Kansas City, Missouri, was trapped inside the vehicle under the rear passenger side of the trailer. Missouri State Highway Patrol and Overland Park police say officials helped remove the woman from the Forte.
She is alive, conscious and in the hospital, according to Leawood police. She told officials she was in a lot of pain.
The crash took place at the intersection of the on-ramp to westbound I-435 and State Line Road in Leawood, police say. Investigators say they believe the semi was crossing west when it hit the Kia.
The Kia was dragged by the semi truck around 8 miles west to Lackman Road. Officials initially reported that the vehicle was a Prius rather than a Kia.
The driver of the semi stopped once realizing the Forte was under the vehicle, officials say. The semi driver is cooperating with police.
